Chateau Lynch-Bages Grand Cru Classé 2023

This dry red wine from Bordeaux comes from the prestigious AOC Pauillac, crafted by the renowned Lynch-Bages winery. It features a complex aromatic profile with notes of blackcurrant, mint, and subtle mineral undertones, supported by a firm tannic structure and a persistent finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc
  • D.O. / Region: AOC Pauillac, Bordeaux
  • Winery: Lynch-Bages
  • Soil / Altitude: Gravel, chalk, and sandy soils on a plateau
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 18 months in French oak barrels / Cellaring potential of 20+ years

The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from vineyards situated on a plateau west of Pauillac. The soils consist of a classic blend of Garonne gravel, chalk, and sand, which provides excellent natural drainage. Meticulous parcel management ensures optimal development for each grape variety.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Following a manual harvest with double sorting in the vineyard and cellar, the wine undergoes controlled fermentation. It is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels to enhance its complexity and refine its tannins.

Why buy it

Its outstanding aging potential ensures it will develop beautifully over the decades. You can buy Chateau Lynch-Bages Grand Cru Classé 2023 online directly from our boutique.

Delicately aromatic with fully ripe black cherries, alongside cedarwood, graphite, and a wild mix of spices. A hint of pipe tobacco on the finish. On the palate full-bodied, expansive, and very juicy, with impressive length. 🦏 🦏. 🦏 Fein duftend nach vollreifen schwarzen Kirschen, dazu Zedernholz, Graphit und ein wilder Gewürzmix. Perswijn UGCB 2026. Juicy in style with a faintly floral edge, giving the wine an unexpectedly feminine expression for Pauillac. Pleasant and easy on the palate, though the profile feels somewhat atypical, which slightly tempers the impression.

UGC 2023 25/74,🥉 of 8 in Pauillac. Often called a SUPER SECOND even though it’s a 5th Growth classification from the 1855 classification. Much down from last vintage. Mildly greener and thinner and still manages to get mid bodied. Medium amounts of cedar and earthy vibes, Cassis leads the fruit. Mid length finish and a fair amount of tannin. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. About $ 95 (rare to see this below 100 US on release) Estimated 92-94 points at peak. WA 93-95, JD 95-97 Event Details⬇️

Tasted the 2023 vintage at the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux launch in NYC. Was excited to taste the Lynch Bages, but the 2023 feels too young still, tannins are rough. Fruit is showing well, good blackberry and classic cassis, sit this down for at least 3 more years and revisit
