Chateau Lynch-Bages Grand Cru Classé 2019

This dry red wine from the AOC Pauillac is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot crafted by the prestigious Lynch-Bages winery. It features aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, graphite, and violet, balanced by a firm structure with silky tannins and a long finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc
  • D.O. / Region: AOC Pauillac, Bordeaux
  • Winery: Lynch-Bages
  • Soil / Altitude: Gravel, chalk, and sand
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 18 months in oak, cellaring potential of 20+ years

The vineyard

The vineyards are located on a plateau west of Pauillac, characterized by Garonne gravel, chalk, and sandy soils. These conditions provide excellent drainage and impart a distinctive typicity to the grapes.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand with meticulous selection in the vineyard. The wine then undergoes aging in oak barrels for 18 months to refine its structure and complexity.

Why buy it

This red wine is highly regarded for its exceptional cellaring potential of over twenty years, making it an excellent addition to any private collection. Its development in the bottle promises to reveal even greater depth and complexity over time. If you wish to secure a classic Bordeaux for your cellar, you can buy Chateau Lynch-Bages Grand Cru Classé 2019 online directly from our shop.

Expected this to be my watershed moment for Bordeaux, but no such luck. Very good, but again, overrated. I had a little bit left in the CDP that I rated a few days ago. I took it out to compare to this, and even though it was on a decline, it was still a tad better than this was. This is really good but again, I just expected a lot more. American red blends and Cabernet over this by a country mile.

A beautiful wine from Paulliac. Still young but already enjoyable even by itself. Showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Spicy and entertaining. Nicely balanced and elegant. 92 points

Left bank Bordeaux. Nose is crazy good. Deep black colour. Very drying (puckering) tannins but enjoyable. Super powerful wine. Showed greater length than the 2023 Moss Wood but both great wines.

Decanted her for 1 hour, impressed by ruby color, nose of oak, cherry, blackberry, tobacco and hint of cedar with leather and licorice palate. Medium+ body, rounded smooth medium tannin, dry, medium acidity with moderate finished. Pairing with striploin beef and cheese plate. Taste by Italese handmade glasses.

#NYWE2024 Friday evening Critics’ Choice Grand Tastings backlog from October 18, wine #13 of 77. Located on the outskirts of Pauillac in the small village of Bages, the estate was formerly owned by the illustrious Irish Lynch family (hence the wine name). Now owned by the Cazes family, who also seem to own most of the village. Awfully young, but with a lot of potential. Nose of blackberry, cassis, plum, leather, tobacco and cedar. H tannins and acidity. Happy to own two bottles. WS 96

#NYWE2024 Critic’s Choice Grand Tasting, Friday night. Lynch Bages 2019 was showing very well, but leave the bottle alone for another 10 years. The nose exhibits black fruit, tobacco, oak, leather and forest floor. The mouth is balanced and elegant! WS 96 Happy Bordeaux Sunday!

Velvet in the mouth. Young fruit all around - aromas as people said below/above/whatever. Killer wine with Beef Wellington, buttered carrots, sauteed mushrooms and an orange vinaigrette salad.

From Wine Spectator's New York Wine Experience back in October, this was evening #1 of the Critics' Choice Grand Tasting. The next wine was another tried recently in Toronto, the 2014 from @[1|25976128|Rob the Red Rider], this was the 2019 from Cinquièmes Cru producer Château Lynch-Bages. Very young but showing elegant power already! Brief notes - dark fruit, sofa leather, cassis, black tea and sandalwood. This Pauillac estate, overlooking the Gironde estuary, was founded back in 1632.

4.4 @ home in Shanghai Off course this vintage is too early to drink, but gradually and gradually opened and enjoyed fully. Aroma of black and red berries, red flower, nuance of chocolate and spice. Ch. Lynch-Bages is always one of my best choice. Looking forward to re-open this vintage in future.

It definitely is too young now and could be much more than what it is now given another decades or so, but already quite accessible and very enjoyable. High acid, high but smooth tannin, opulent fruit primarily black currant and cassis, signature Pyrazine from Cab, vanilla and toastiness from the use of new oak - it possesses all typical elements of an excellent Paulliac, and most impressively they all are very well integrated already at this young age. Will definitely revisit this beauty in the future.
