Algueira Carravel 2019
This dry red wine from D.O. Ribeira Sacra is a single-varietal Mencía produced by the Algueira winery. It features a medium-intensity garnet color, with aromas of wild strawberry and balsamic notes, balanced tannins, and a mineral finish.
Key facts
- Grape variety: Mencía
- D.O. / Region: D.O. Ribeira Sacra
- Winery: Algueira
- Soil / Altitude: Slate soils, south-facing
- Ageing / Cellaring potential: Prolonged aging in French oak barrels
The vineyard
The grapes are sourced from selected south-facing parcels in Doade. The vines grow on characteristic slate soils under a continental Mediterranean climate, which provides freshness and a distinct mineral character.
Winemaking
Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, with each parcel vinified separately. The wine then undergoes prolonged aging in French oak barrels before the final blending.
