The vineyard

Deep ruby. Rich nose of blackberry, black cherry, vanilla, cured meat and sweet tobacco. Medium bodied with grainy tannins and an earthy midpalate of blackcurrant, licorice, coffee and saline that ends in a 30s finish. Intriguing that this feels more Bordeaux than Rioja, but perhaps not that surprising when noting that this is the brainchild of a collaboration between Rothschild and Vega Sicilia. 92 points

Oak, vanilla, tobacco, smoke. On the palate luscious with dark cherry, blackberries, plum, raisins, chocolate, mocha, cinnamon, spice. This started off quite big and heavy but settled after 30min - 1 hour of decanting, showing great balance, elegance and length. 4.5/5 stars

Very opulent and lush Med+ nose of borderline jammy blackberry, black plum, blueberry, black pepper, hint of violet. Overall quite simple and in your face Med maybe med+ acid but the fruit is so dense and concentrated that I think the acid was slightly lacking. Velvety med tannins on the palate but the finish is classic, loosely knit tempranilllo chalk dust,, very rounded mouthfeel, hi alcohol, full body, long finish. Not my style but a very good wine

4.3 Beautiful and elegant Rioja, more balanced then the 6 year 2016 I have had previously. Superb nose of rich red fruit, cedar and slight vanilla. The med+ palate has elegant fruit, soft chalky tannin, a little creamy with very strong length. 100% Tempranillo, barrel fermented, aged in fine grain French oak & 2nd use, 50/50 and 10% American oak. From 92ha of chalky sandy soil.

Somehow I smell licorice. It's quite pronounced but tapers off after letting it breathe a while. Hints of chocolate as it hits your tongue the disperses quite pleasantly. Very pleasant tannins. I like this. Perhaps it was providential I left it to mature in the bottle for a while as I completely forgot that it was in my cellar!

4.4-4.5pt. Elegant and integrated 100% Tempranillo from Rioja. Opened in April 2021. Impressive smokey and meaty notes mixed with mellow red and black fruits. Excellent fruits intensity with well-balanced acidity. Nice tannins. Still developing but enough good to drink. Deep ruby color. Pronounced aroma intensity. Aromas of red cherry, black berry, black plum, cedar, milk, smoke, tobacco and meat. Dry. Medium acidity, high ripe tannins and high alcohol. Full body. Pronounced flavor intensity. Long finish.

Wonderful. Dry and full in the mouth. Leather and graphite atop a deep dark fruit base. Decanted and allowed to breathe for 4 hours...perhaps could have benefited from even more. Will be buying some further vintages for sure.
