The vineyard

The Pinot Noir grapes originate from the Les Charmes vineyard in the Côte de Nuits. The vines, averaging 35 years of age, are cultivated traditionally without herbicides or chemical fertilizers, focusing on natural viticulture.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Following a manual harvest, the fully destemmed grapes ferment in concrete vats. The wine then undergoes aging for 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with 50% new oak used for this Premier Cru.

This bottle is turning tertiary fairly quickly, with aromas of plum, sour cherry, tea leaves, earth, brown sugar, and a subtle violet note. The palate has fresh acidity, good concentration, firm, ripe, and elegant tannins, and good length. If this is representative of all bottles, I would prefer to drink it now. The wines from Laurent Roumier have huge vintage variation, making it hard to pinpoint a consistent style.

Laurent Roumier is the grandson of the legendary Georges Roumier. Les Charmes is located just below the village almost exactly half way between the two Grand Crus of Chambolle-Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Musigny. It's also very close to the Les Amoureuses premier cru vineyard, which explains which this is always one of the most highly favoured sites in the commune. Wine is very sophisticated, elegant and complex. Simplu great Pinot.

Stunning 1er Cru "Les Charmes"! Low intervention, 20-30% whole grapes. Lots of fruit and violet, subtle roasted notes in the super fragrant, enchanting nose. Med body with sweetish fruit and balancing yet not fully integrated acidity. Young and fresh, great balance and elegance. Lots of potential. Big!

Clean, clear, pale ruby. On nose, complex, medium+ intensity, leather, smoke, burn, prune, spices, caramel, oil, violet, floral, black cherry, plum. On palate, balanced, high acidity, medium+ finish, little smooth tannins, light sweetness. The silkiness of Chambolle village does not present significantly in this wine. Too young. Give it a 4.2!
