Izadi Selección 2019

This dry red wine from D.O. Ca. Rioja is a blend crafted by the Izadi winery using traditional grape varieties. It offers aromas of ripe plum, cherry, and licorice, complemented by a medium-to-full body, smooth tannins, and a spicy finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha Tinta, Maturana Tinta
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Ca. Rioja
  • Winery: Izadi
  • Soil / Altitude: Villabuena, Samaniego, and Ábalos
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 16 months in oak barrels

The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from a selection of forty hectares of old vineyards planted around 1970 in the villages of Villabuena, Samaniego, and Ábalos. These low-yielding plots benefit from the unique conditions of the area, ensuring concentrated fruit flavors.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Harvested by hand in small crates, the grapes undergo gravity-flow vinification. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by sixteen months of aging in French and American oak barrels.

Why buy it

If you are looking for a cellar-worthy wine with the classic character of this region, this bottle is an excellent addition to your collection. Its balanced structure and oak aging guarantee a beautiful evolution in the bottle over the coming years. You can buy Izadi Selección 2019 online directly from our shop to enjoy a structured red for your special occasions.

Coupage made from: Tempranillo (about 50%), and rest of official Riojan red grapes accounting the remaining (Grenache, Graciano, Mazuelo, and Maturana). It is aged for 18 months using both French and American Oak, while resting an extra 18 months before release. It has a ruby red colour with long legs. The nose shares: plum, blackberry, liquorice, butter, and vanilla. It is balanced with black fruit flavours. It is round with an earthy bitter aftertaste and long finish. Note: paired with pork in bread sauce.

A very good red wine with a savory and classic profile. A Rioja Red Blend from Rioja Alavesa. An emblematic signature red wine from Bodegas Izadi. It is distinguished by being a blend of the winery's best plots, seeking to express the essence of its oldest vines. Consistently very well rated by critics.

Great blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Grenache, Carrignan & Maturana Tinta, ABV 14,5%, aged 12 months (at least) in oak barrels. Deep ruby color with bluish hue. Notes of red fruits, oak, smokiness; medium+-bodied, well balanced, structured, velvety, nice fruitiness and tanins, soft oak, cedar, long somewhat oaky end.

The 2019 vintage received an "Excellent" rating from the Rioja Control Board, indicating exceptional quality. And the Izadi Rioja Selection 2019 is not the exception. Rich, full body with a complex profile of dark fruits, spices and toasted oak on both the nose and the palate. Long, persistent finish with lingering fruit and delicate smoke hints, cheers!

Great wine! 👁 dark ruby red color. 👃 blueberry, black currant, cedar, vanilla, smoke, yogurt, licorice and pepper. 👅 dry, medium-high accidity, high tannins, medium-heavy body, medium-long aftertaste. It's slightly better than the Crianza version of the same winery.

After a downpour, temperatures dropped a few degrees, allowing room for a red. Despite the wine's high ABV, they achieved a good balance with the blend. This is a rich modern-day, complex, muscular, animated style. It delivers dark berry fruit on the fore with bitter-sweet chocolate notes in the background. It is lively, with medium + acidity, fine-grained tannins, good density and great ageing potential. Long, earthy finish.

Aged 16 months in a mix of American and French oak. A blend of 5 red grapes. (I think Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, mazuelo and another I can’t remember) Soft and round and full bodied in the mouth. Nice acidity and red fruit notes. Vanilla too.

Nice and dry. Full of character, oaky, fruity, lively. Needs decanting. Went well with a steak. Dryness was still prominent on a second day.
