Forjas del Salnés Goliardo Espadeiro 2020

A dry red wine made from the indigenous Espadeiro grape in the D.O. Rías Baixas by the Forjas del Salnés winery. It offers aromas of ripe strawberries, plums, and herbal notes, balanced by a vibrant acidity and a persistent finish.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Espadeiro
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Rías Baixas
  • Winery: Forjas del Salnés
  • Soil / Altitude: Granitic sand and rock, low altitude near the sea
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: 24 months in 500-liter barrels

The vineyard

The grapes originate from the Val do Salnés, a cold and humid Atlantic region located less than six kilometers from the ocean. The soils, composed of granitic sand and rock, host ancient vines that have endured due to these extreme maritime conditions.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

The harvest is carried out selectively by plot to ensure optimal ripeness. The wine is then aged for two years in 500-liter oak barrels before bottling.

Why buy it

This Galician red wine stands out for its freshness and unique aromatic profile, making it ideal for those seeking rare traditional varieties. Its limited production makes it a highly valued addition to your personal cellar. If you wish to experience this Atlantic character, you can buy Forjas del Salnés Goliardo Espadeiro 2020 online directly from our shop.

Galician royalty. Impressive how fresh and alive this wine is. Amazing acidity, fresh red fruit, soft greener elements and earth. Full of light and electricity.

A unique style made from indigenous grapes grown on 180-year-old vines. It exhibits very high acidity that suppresses other aromas. The wine is notably spicy, with turmeric being particularly noticeable. Normally, I wouldn't prefer it.

Authentic Galicia, Espadeiro from Rias Baixas. Fresh, very lively acidity, M- body, low alcohol - 12%, M- tannins. Ruby garnet. It has some similarity to CF. Cherry, cranberry, and hint of bell pepper on the nose. Red berries with dominant cranberry, bell pepper, spicy minerals, and earthy notes on the palate. I love this style🤌🏻

2017 rias baixas Spain. Reddish garnet color. Evolving nose of oak, smoke, red fruit, slight mint, sour cranberry. Medium- body, intense sourness like it’s counterpart caino of the same winery, but exhibit more complexity, with noticeable oak, chocolate, cherry on top of the acidity. Medium length. Very interesting sour wine.

Laser focus, zippy acidity. Yet has a weight and broadness that belies the first attack. Very good

I keep going trough Galicia and hope this is a never ending box 📦 😅 again it’s red and again a juicy and extremely flash experience 😁👏 raspberry, cranberry, pomegranate, saline, flint, stone, smoke, oak and a little bit of vanilla 😊 some serious sour shit 😁 I like it, but if you don’t like wine with screaming acidity you should stay away from this one 🇪🇸👍 not that many miles away for Ribera and Rioja but miles away in taste and expression.

Happy 🔠🍇 Saturday. Have you heard of the ⓔ grape ⓔspadeiro? It's a dry red wine from grapes grown mostly in NW Portugal's Vinho Verde region and just across the Spanish border in Rias Biaxas, which is where this wine is from. Wine is very dark in color, aromatic nose, flavors of iron, minerals, red cherry, and smoke. 3.7 stars from me. In S Portugal the name ⓔspadeiro refers to a completely different grape, Trincadeira. ⓔspadeiro name also mistakenly used in Minho for the Padeiro grape. Chⓔⓔrs !
