The vineyard

The grapes originate from the Mas La Plana estate, a 29-hectare vineyard with clay and marl soils under a Mediterranean climate. Planted in the 1960s, these old vines are cultivated using regenerative viticulture to enhance biodiversity and soil health.

Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and oak foudres, followed by a maceration period of 15 to 25 days.

This wine has been in my cellar for 20 years and I served it to one of my wine loving friends who has done me a huge favour. The colour has not changed since bottling- no sign of aging and the wine has eliminated any tannins ensuring a beautiful mouth filling experience. Served with my risotto of mushroom and leaks, it will live in our memories of one of the best!

The 2008 is really aging well. Notes of tobacco were really nice and the velvety mouth feel lead to a pleasant drinking experience. Paired with short ribs at Mason St Grill in Milwaukee.

A bravo Mas la Plana. For some reason, probably because of promixity, or because Cabernet is not common in Spain, it happens that I tend to forget about Mas la Plana. This 2008 starts feeling as past its peak of the ageing process, but still really elegant. And good. Aromas of overripe red forest fruits, dark plums almost in compote. Truffle. Elegant woods. Tobacco. In mouth, silky. Refinement and elegance. Very refined and integrated tanins.

4.3 no wonder they call this the 'the legend in black'. was lucky enough to drink a bottle with just aged enough to truely enjoy the potential of this one. truly refined, and well balanced, just like a bordeaux, but packed with a spanish punch.
