Artadi Viña el Pison 2015

This dry red Tempranillo wine is produced by the Artadi winery in the prestigious Rioja Alavesa region. It features deep aromas of blackberry, dried mushrooms, and fresh earth, leading to a broad, silky palate with a persistent finish of subtle spicy notes.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Tempranillo
  • D.O. / Region: Rioja Alavesa / Álava
  • Winery: Artadi
  • Soil / Altitude: Clay-limestone, 480 m
  • Ageing / Cellaring potential: Oak barrel ageing

The vineyard

The grapes originate from a single 2.4-hectare parcel in Laguardia, planted in 1945 at an altitude of 480 meters. The deep, nutrient-poor clay-limestone soil ensures balanced vine growth and optimal mineral regulation.

Ideal combination

Winemaking

Harvesting is carried out manually in 15 kg crates with a rigorous selection of clusters. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes ageing in oak barrels, with production limited to approximately 6,000 bottles.

Why buy it

This age-worthy red stands out for its balance and depth, making it an ideal choice for collectors and terroir-driven wine enthusiasts. Its limited production ensures exclusivity in every bottle. If you are seeking a pure and sophisticated expression of Rioja Alavesa, you can buy Artadi Viña el Pison 2015 online directly from our shop.

I get the icon status. The 2014 Artadi Viña El Pison opens with an expressive nose of black cherry, wild blackberry, crushed violets, graphite and sweet spice, layered with subtle earth and cedar. On the palate it is remarkably seamless, with an extraordinary velvety texture that glides effortlessly across the tongue, carrying deep, pure fruit and fine mineral tension. The finish is unusually long, echoing spice, dark fruit and stone for minutes.

Such a unique style . Like a grand cru Burgundy. Powerful in a soft velvety way. Earthy, plum, green coffee , cherry.

This wine is radically elegant. And, unfortunately, it is not many more things. It's probably a problem of expectations given its price. But definetely a good wine. Aromas of fresh red and ripe little forest black fruits. Refined not-varnished woods. Little terpenicity, but fragant. Ink. Almost absence of secondary aromas. Light tertiary. One need to reach the mouth to understand this is an exceptional wine: extremely silky. Elegant. (too) Horizontal. Long. And mid bodied.

Dark, brilliantly ruby red with orange rim, intense nose with blackberry, huckleberry jam, tobacco, leather, vanilla. Dry, mid acidity, full body, mid+ still some greenish tannins. Intense palate with loads of blackberry, dark cherry, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, leather. Endless finish.

I wouldn't normally consider opening such a gem at such a young age, but needs must)) Needless to say, any reservations were dispelled instantly with the perfume of berries and chalk and sage. What a wonderful bouquet! After a bit of decanting the wine opens up immensly with subtle but persistent tannins framing balanced body.

Lovely, elegant wine. Smooth, nice tannin. I think I like this better than Unico.

2.4 ha of vines from 1945, 100% Very obvious pedigree. Tempranillo. Malolactic fermentation. 12 months in new French oak. A little restrained as we didn’t get to give it enough air. Declassified Rioja by Artadi. Almost 9 years old but shows young, strong fruit concentration and a little dark chocolate, subtle minerality. Clearly a gorgeous wine, this is one for the long haul by Artadi.

One of the 6000 bottles of organic Tempranillo from a 2.4 hectare sandy clay and limestone plot in La Rioja Alavesa planted in 1945. Present day style wine is produced since 1981. Southeast orientation at 480 meters of altitude. Dark garnet colour with light bricking. Complex rich nose with a star role of riper dark, black fruit and wood. Licorice, cacao, earth, touch of caramel and hint of menthol, pepper. On the palate it is showing again complexity, lots of dark fruit, mineral. Energetic with grippy tannins.

Open and complex with tons of flowers, red fruits, wild herbs and subtle spices. The palate reveals outstanding balance, refined tannins and focused, precise flavors, nicely textured and chiseled, with verticality plus volume. 6,000 bottles produced.

Got this one right on the blind taste. I put it in Rioja based on the color and smell. Tannins could be from a Nebbiolo but I stuck with Tempranillo. Not modern so I stayed away from RdD and nailed Rioja Alavesa. This is the second time I have this wine. First time up it was herbaceous and tannic. This time around it was way better and I believe it has many years to go in the bottle. This is one of the highest rated Spanish wines.
