Artadi La Poza de Ballesteros 2012

This dry red wine from D.O. Ca. Rioja is a single-variety Tempranillo crafted by the Artadi winery in Rioja Alavesa. It reveals a mature profile with aromas of ripe plums, black tea, tobacco, and balsamic undertones, leading to a broad and well-balanced palate.

Key facts

  • Grape variety: Tempranillo
  • D.O. / Region: D.O. Ca. Rioja
  • Winery: Artadi
  • Soil / Altitude: Deep soils, sheltered by the Sierra de Toloño

The vineyard

The grapes are sourced from a unique parcel in the Sonsierra Alavesa, located opposite the Valdeginés vineyard. This site is sheltered by the Sierra de Toloño and features deeper soils that contribute to the balanced expression of the vines. The local microclimate ensures optimal ripening of the grapes.

Ideal combination

Why buy it

With a limited production of only 6,000 bottles, this red wine is a valuable acquisition for those seeking a cellar-worthy bottle with a distinct sense of place. Its aromatic complexity and structured palate promise a beautiful evolution in the bottle over the coming years. If you wish to add a highly expressive wine to your collection, you can buy Artadi La Poza de Ballesteros 2012 online directly from our boutique.

Good. Light and heavy at the same time. Sour plum crumble cake action. Very nice.

Still inky purple at 12 years of age. Aromas of dark plum, black cherry, blackberry, then vanilla, chocolate, tobacco at the end you get mushroom earthy notes. Medium acidity still and smooth tannins. Full bodied and good length a very balanced wine. Cannot wait to try more of these with some age on them.

This is another dense and powerful single- vineyard wine from Artadi. The palate is pure silk and very ripe. Saturated earthy blackberry, boysenberry, toasted bread, creamy milk chocolate and herbal flavors finish plump and silky. This super- rich delight is supported by lively acidity and remarkable tannins . Long, long lasting and brimming with fruit this remains with a wonderful feeling of volume and grace!

Single plot, "terroir" phylosophy wine. Rioja "Grand Cry". Burgundy style wine, selected hairy Tempranillo- Peluda. Bold jam in aroma, cherry jam and juice on tongue. 3000 bottles only.

Bought this one in Spain. Along with great memories triggered by the wine it is a truly remarkable complex wine. One of the best Rioja’s I’ve had. Deep red, thick. Cherry, blackberry, tobacco. A great wine.

Floral and mineral notes frame ripe blackberry and currant flavors in this bold, modern red. Firm tannins give this backbone, balancing the racy edge of acidity, which yields to a spicy, mineral-tinged finish. Not quite harmonious now, but expressive and complex. Best from 2018.

Plot Rioja (the new trend?). If I remember well this is their mid range one. Very good and modern in style.

Similar color to the Valdegines, this other single vineyard wine is separated from its former by a 50 meter creek, but same altitude, climate and soil with identical vinification process. Only difference is its west exposure, thus catching "afternoon sun". It has similar aromas but almost "sweeter". More creamy and silky on palate with wrapping tannins and medium acidity. It seems like this wine develops more layers through longer and hotter exposure. 4.2 stars

Artadi has a great reputation and his is doing highly ranking wine, this Rioja is well done yet missing a bit of soul. Deep purple, reserved tight nose, red current, flowers and spices, tea leaves and sweet cherry, medium body, smooth with very present acidity, long acid finish. Needs time to reveal is soul and character. My score 87, drink 2018-2024
