Monastrell: Buy Online with Home Delivery

Monastrell is the grape of the sun: it needs heat, withstands drought and ripens late, after other varieties are already picked. It is the great red of Spain’s Levante and one of the best buys in Spanish wine. Delivered in 2–4 working days from Marbella, free from €100.

What Monastrell tastes like

Very ripe black fruit, plum, fig, wild herbs and spice, with body, firm tannins and a warm finish. Young versions are juicy and direct; with ageing they gain depth and notes of chocolate and liquorice.

Jumilla, Yecla and Alicante

In Jumilla and Yecla it grows in poor, sandy soils, often from old ungrafted vines. In Alicante it also gives Fondillón, a long-aged rancio wine unlike any other in the world. Outside Spain it is called Mourvèdre in France, where it is blended into Rhône reds, and Mataro in Australia.

FAQ

Its regions are less famous than Rioja or Ribera, but their old vines give concentrated wines at very fair prices.
