Dom Ruinart Brut Rosé 2009

This 2009 vintage rosé champagne is a dry sparkling wine crafted by the historic Maison Ruinart in the AOC Champagne. It features a pink hue with raspberry highlights, aromas of sweet spices, citrus, and floral notes, leading to an enveloping palate of red berries and a saline finish with fine bubbles.

Key facts

Crafted by cellar master Frédéric Panaïotis, Dom Ruinart Brut Rosé 2009 (~$350) earns 97 points from Wine Advocate. Founded in Reims in 1729 as the world's first established Champagne house, Ruinart created this prestige cuvée showcasing Grand Cru terroirs. Blending 85% Chardonnay with 15% Pinot Noir red wine from Aÿ, it yields blood orange, wild strawberry, cinnamon spice, toasted brioche, violet, and saline oyster shell minerality.

Elegant raspberry and cherry, citrus, cocoa, coffee and butterscotch. Very well ripe. 15% Pinot Noir from Aÿ vinified as red wine, with the remainder Chardonnay sourced from Cramant, Avize, Chouilly, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Sillery. At least 11 years’ ageing on lees with 4 g/L dosage. Deg. Aug 2018.

More evidence of how well 09s drink now. Something musty about the nose, mothballs, strawberry, smoky, reductive and seductive, blood orange Pronounced wet stone palate with citrus finish

Tasted after the tour through the chalk cellars of Ruinart in Reims (impressive). Compared to the “normal” rose champagne. Ageing does miracles. Makes is more gentle, richer, more structure. Definitely a gastronomic champagne. Still nicely fruity added with minerals, chalk bit of wood (from the cork) and nice and soft in bubbels and aftertaste.

honey apricot on the nose. Berries and apricot (especially as the wine warms) up front, then citrus notes take hold for the somewhat acidic (tannic?) finish. Pairs well with savory foods (we had roasted poultry w/reduction).

85% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot noir red wine. A light salmon orange. Interesting complex layers of bright red fruits like pomegranate, tinge of cinnamon spice, some violets and similarly sea salt and butter notes to the newly released 2013 BdB Dom Ruinart. A medium-full weighted palate of red fruits like maraschino cherries and redcurrants, intense minerality, salty, and persistence into the finishing, with a slightly bitter feedback of red fruit skins.

93-94. Likely has years to go, as it was very fresh. More brioche than bread dough. Tart strawberries and cherry skin. Fine bubbles and plenty of acidity. Good match for food. It’s expensive, but I’d buy more if this bottle is a good example. Best wine from a good lineup.

Orange-salmon colour. Small, lively bubbles. Coffee, herbs, and pink grapefruit on the nose. Complex palate with lots of fruit, minerals, and perfect acidity. Medium to long finish. An outstanding champagne that goes well on its own as well as with a wide range of dishes. Top!

Pale salmon colour. Fine, regular bubbles. Straw, toasted almond, and nectarine on the nose. Creamy to taste with brioche, mushroom, peach, vanilla, and biscuit flavours. Very good but not a patch on the 2002.

You must slow down, 2009 vintage. You should savor, appreciate the subtleties of this beauty with another rose lover (or, lover). Take your time, sit back, taste the almost ripe berry to start and salty end. We definitely enjoyed in Reims 0625!
