Big complexity on the nose, although less so than the 2021. Big structure and concentration - will age for the long haul.

Great vintage! Icon wine, and this time Sangiovese should get Oscar for the best supporting role. WIP

Description

This wine boasts a deep ruby red color with attractive violet reflections. On the nose, it unfolds a complex aromatic expression dominated by ripe black fruits, such as blackcurrant, blueberry, plum, and fig, accompanied by delicate floral notes of violet. As it evolves, elegant nuances of powdered sugar, gianduja, white pepper, tobacco, and subtle hints of quinine emerge. On the palate, it is ample, creamy, and enveloping, balanced by an extraordinary freshness that lends dynamism to the whole. The fine, silky tannins create a refined and harmonious texture that leads to a long, intense, and remarkably deep finish.

Marchesi Antinori Solaia 2022 is a premium dry red wine crafted from an exceptional blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Sangiovese, under the mastery of the legendary Antinori family, a symbol of excellence in Tuscany. This wine is made from the finest grapes from the sunniest area of the Tignanello vineyard, a privileged location that gives rise to one of Italy's most iconic labels.

The Solaia vineyard covers 20 hectares with a southwest exposure, located between 350 and 400 meters above sea level, on soils rich in Alberese (hard limestone) and Galestro (flaky calcareous clay). These unique conditions give the wine its elegance, structure, and depth. Since its first harvest in 1978, Solaia has been produced exclusively in exceptional vintages, becoming a world reference among great Italian reds.

During the harvest, each stage of the process is carried out with the utmost care. The grapes are destemmed and subjected to strict selection before being gravity-fed into truncated conical fermentation tanks, ensuring that only the highest quality fruit becomes part of the wine.

Fermentation and maceration are carefully managed to preserve the balance between fruit intensity and tannin quality, aiming to express the full personality and finesse of Solaia. After racking, malolactic fermentation takes place directly in barrels, adding greater complexity and harmony to the wine.

The wine is aged for approximately 15 months in new French oak barrels. Each batch ages separately before being blended and returned to the barrel to complete its maturation, resulting in a wine of extraordinary depth, elegance, and precision.

An excellent choice for those looking to buy wine online and discover one of the great icons of Italian winemaking, renowned for its sophistication, balance and exceptional aging potential.
