Marañones Garnacha 2023

This wine displays aromas of white pepper accompanied by mineral nuances reminiscent of iron and chalk, along with subtle hints of lightly roasted grapefruit. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with well-defined fruit and firm, pronounced tannins, typical of a great Barolo. It stands out for its solid structure and elegant restraint that harmonizes with and enhances its fruit expression.

Marañones 2023 is a dry red wine, made exclusively from Garnacha grapes, sourced from vineyards located in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, one of the three sub-zones of the Vinos de Madrid Designation of Origin. The vines that give life to this wine are organically cultivated on north-facing slopes at over 800 meters above sea level, trained in the traditional bush vine system. The winds in the area facilitate viticulture that is extremely respectful of the environment, creating an ecosystem that adds a special character to the wine. The vines, between 50 and 70 years old, are planted in granitic soils (white, brown, and pink granite) with a silty-sandy texture.

The grapes are harvested by hand in 12 kg crates to preserve their quality. The bunches arrive at the winery whole and macerate with some of the stems, aiming for greater complexity and structure. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in 3.000 to 4.500 liter French oak vats and stainless steel tanks, with gentle punch-downs (pigeage) used for delicate extraction.

The wine then ages for 15 months on its lees in foudres, French oak vats, and concrete tanks ranging from 1.000 to 5.000 liters, refining its texture and depth. It was bottled in the spring of 2025 and contains sulfites to ensure its stability.

In 2021, Bodegas Marañones was integrated into the Alma Carraovejas wine group, which also includes other renowned wineries such as Pago de Carraovejas, Ossian Vides y Vinos, and Viña Meín – Emilio Rojo.
