MC: pepper spice like a Brazilian Ipanema twink; sultry tobacco mist floating over Sugar Loaf; balance of acid and fruit led by young BOYSenberry.

From very old ungrafted roots (1914!) in a clay loam soil whis is an awesome Malbec. This is elegance, fresh with enough body. Fermented in

Lunch at 5 Suelos in Mendoza. Soft and delicious Malbec. Argentinian Malbec does not need to be intense and overloaded with oak, and this is

A bit light on the palette to be a Malbec, then again it is a Malbec blend of 5 different tracts owned by Durigutti.

Tannins on the nose but the taste, oh so smooth. Especially for a malbec. Wonderful light red fruit. Light acidity, imperceptible. Soft tannins.

A refreshing take on Malbec, nicely balanced, not overly heavy or “chewy”. Notes of cherry, touch of pepper, medium body.

Description

This Malbec stands out for its robust structure and chromatic depth. It displays intense aromas of ripe black fruits accompanied by delicate herbal and spicy nuances, typical of its terroir. On the palate, it offers a dense and well-balanced texture, with an acidity that provides freshness and a persistent and enveloping finish.

Proyecto Las Compuertas Malbec 1914 is a dry red wine of great authenticity, made with 100% Malbec in the prestigious region of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina. This wine, created by Durigutti Family Winemakers, reflects the legacy of a winery that has achieved international recognition by being included in the Top 10 of the World's Best Vineyards 2024, being the only Argentine winery in this prestigious global ranking.

The Malbec in this wine comes from vineyards planted in 1914, located at an altitude of 1050 metres above sea level. The vineyard is managed using organic practices, with double Guyot pruning, blanket irrigation and deep clay-loam soils, ideal for producing grapes with great concentration and expression.

The grapes are harvested manually, carefully selecting each bunch and transporting them in 18 kg boxes to preserve their integrity. In the winery, the whole grapes are received in cement eggs without epoxy, where they undergo cold maceration for one day at 10°C to extract the most delicate aromas and flavours. Alcoholic fermentation, with native yeasts, takes place for 30 days at controlled temperatures between 23 and 25°C, with four daily stompings to ensure a balanced extraction.

Malolactic fermentation takes place in 2000-litre French oak foudres, used in their fifth cycle, for a period of 30 days at 20°C, providing complexity and softening the tannins. The wine is then aged for 6 months in the same foudre, followed by an additional 13 months in epoxy-free cement eggs, giving it a silky texture and an elegant, fresh aromatic profile.

The result is a deep Malbec, with aromas of ripe black fruits, hints of dried herbs and subtle mineral notes. Recommended pairing: Ideal with roasted meats, Argentine empanadas, traditional stews and lamb-based dishes. Serving temperature: We recommend enjoying it between 15 and 18°C, allowing it to unfold all its complexity in each glass.

Buying Proyecto Las Compuertas Malbec 1914 wine is an invitation to discover the richness and authenticity of one of the most emblematic terroirs of Argentina, a wine that combines tradition, sustainability and excellence.
