This Chenin Blanc captivates with its vibrant nose, where quince, mandarin and pear intertwine in a fresh and expressive aromatic profile. On the palate, its broad and fleshy entry gives way to a vibrant and balanced acidity, culminating in a long and slightly rubbery finish. Although delicious in its youth, over time it achieves an exceptional balance, revealing all its complexity and refinement.
Clos de l'Écotard 2022 is a dry white wine made with Chenin Blanc grapes from the Saumur AOC in the Loire Valley, France. This wine is the truest expression of Michel Chevré's personal project. Since 1996, he has dedicated himself to viticulture and found in Clos de l'Écotard the way to realize the secret of his philosophy: working the vineyard in absolute harmony with biodiversity. Between 2007 and 2011, he transformed this estate into a truly living ecosystem, integrating fruit trees, wildlife, and vines with the aim of creating honest wines that accurately reflect their natural surroundings.
The vineyards destined for this wine are situated on clay-limestone soils and feature vines approximately 10 years old, planted at a high density of 8.000 vines per hectare. Cultivation follows organic viticulture principles, with simple Guyot pruning and meticulous soil work carried out on horseback, including hilling, terrace formation, and continuous monitoring of the vineyard throughout the year, respecting the natural rhythms of the land.
The harvest is carried out manually, carefully selecting the grapes from the lower part of the plot. In the winery, the wine is aged for 18 months entirely in barrels, 10% of which are new oak—regularly renewed—aiming to add complexity and texture without masking the expression of the Chenin Blanc or the terroir. Bottling takes place on the estate itself, completing a completely artisanal process.
