Not sure what did happen... was it the vintage or the way it was store. The wine was ok, but seems a little bit lacking concentration and flavor.

Very good red Bordeaux from Pessac-Leognan. Moderate plus body with a nice finish and tannins. Needs an hour or two to open up after uncorking.

Being mostly cab, you get the usual suspects of cherry, leather, less vanilla here, the wood seems a bit more like cedar to me. Forest floor

Description

This wine has a striking ruby colour with intense red highlights. On the nose, an explosion of red fruits such as raspberries and currants initially stands out, accompanied by delicate floral notes of violets. When left to breathe, the bouquet evolves, displaying a rich combination of fruity and spicy aromas that perfectly reflect the optimal ripening conditions of the grapes. On the palate, it is tasty, with a dense and well-balanced texture. It is an elegant and serious wine, where the Cabernet Sauvignon shines both in the aromatic aspect and in its flavour, offering a refined and authentic experience.

Château Carbonnieux 2021 is an exceptionally dry red wine made in the prestigious AOC Pessac-Léognan appellation, Bordeaux, France, from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. This historic winery, located in the renowned Graves region south of Bordeaux, has perfected the production of both red and white wines, achieving remarkable success in both. Founded in the XNUMXth century, Château Carbonnieux has passed through the hands of numerous French families over the centuries. The Perrin family marked the beginning of its modern history when they acquired the property in the mid-XNUMXth century, bringing significant improvements to the estate.

The 100-hectare vineyard is cultivated sustainably, without the use of CMR, PE or herbicides, mainly implementing biocontrol methods. In addition, the estate is a member of SME Bordeaux and has been HVE certified since 2017, guaranteeing environmentally friendly viticulture. Of the 100 hectares, 55 are dedicated to red wine production, with gravelly and deep Garonne clay soils. The vines have an average age of 26 years, with a high planting density of 7200 vines per hectare.

The grapes are harvested by hand, with a careful double selection, both in the vineyard and on the sorting table, achieving a controlled production of 40 hl/ha. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26-27°C for a period of 10 days. The vatting lasts between 3 and 4 weeks, using pumping over to extract its full potential. The wine ages between 15 and 18 months in Bordeaux barrels, of which 35% are new.

Château Carbonnieux 2021 was bottled in April 2023, with a production of 15,000 cases. This wine is an excellent choice for those looking to buy quality wine, with a balanced and structured profile, reflecting the richness of the terroir and the Bordeaux winemaking tradition.
