Fascinating wine, quite pretty but lacking structure and complexity for me. Lovely fruit profile and nose, just loses its length and concentration

Plum and blackberry flavors mingle with cocoa and loamy earth notes in this medium-bodied red. Gentle acidity keeps this fresh with firm tannins.

Big and dark. Some leather. The high share of Mourvèdre gives a nice dark fruit. It is a bold wine but balanced, complex and long. Nice structure.

Description

This wine displays an irresistible bouquet, where ripe red fruit is intertwined with subtle mineral touches evoking the freshness of stone and the purity of chalk. Adding an intriguing spicy undertone of clove and the earthy depth of tobacco leaf, it reveals a captivating complexity. In the mouth, a sublime sensory experience is presented: tasty, refined, and meaty at the same time, with impeccable balance and a robust structure that delights the senses. Its intense character and prolonged persistence make each sip an unforgettable journey.

Casa Castillo Las Gravas 2021 is an exceptional red wine, created with the outstanding combination of Monastrell (92%) and Garnacha (8%) by the renowned Casa Castillo winery, located in the prestigious Jumilla DOP. This winery, nestled in the Jumilla plateau, extends majestically over the shady areas of the Sierra del Molar, reaching altitudes of up to 760 meters on its steep slopes. With a farm of 402 hectares, of which only 150 are dedicated to vine cultivation, this wine is produced in an environment of exceptional quality.

The vineyards, dating back to their planting in 1986, sit on stony soil of great uniqueness. The harvest is carried out manually, allowing a careful selection of the best grapes. Fermentation is carried out in a traditional way, with each variety treated separately in underground winepresses, where the temperature is carefully controlled at 32ºC. Subsequently, the wine ages for 20 months in 5000 and 500 liter foudres, reaching its fullness of flavor and character. Finally, it is bottled in June 2023, ready to be enjoyed by lovers of good wine.
