This wine delivers in a tough vintage for Piedmont. It is one of the better Barolo I’ve tasted from ‘17 and is very enjoyable right now.

Description

This Barbaresco dazzles with its purity and aromatic freshness, unfolding enveloping notes of vibrant rose petals, orange peel, morello cherries, and a subtle mineral touch of crushed stone. On the palate, its medium-to-full-bodied structure is defined by intricate elegance, where firm, mineral tannins delineate every nuance with precision. Its lively acidity enhances the richness of blackberries and wild berries, providing balance and energy. Although it possesses power and depth, what truly distinguishes it is its refined grace and undeniable beauty in every sip.

Falletto di Bruno Giacosa Asili 2017 is a dry red wine made exclusively from 100% Nebbiolo. Bruno Giacosa, a renowned winemaker based in Piedmont, Italy, is renowned for creating wines with intense texture and aroma, especially in the prestigious Barolo and Barbaresco appellations, using the Nebbiolo grape.

Giacosa's career in the world of wine began at the age of 15, buying grapes for his father's wines. In 1960, he decided to strike out on his own, and quickly established himself as one of the leading producers of Barbaresco, alongside names like Gaja and the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative. In 1964, Giacosa made history by being the first producer in Piedmont to bottle a single-vineyard "cru", coming from the Santo Stefano vineyard.

Bruno Giacosa wines are among the most valued and coveted on the market. Although many of Giacosa's wines come from grapes selected from trusted producers, in 1982 he acquired the Falletto vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba and established his own winery. Later, he expanded his plots in La Morra and in specific areas of Barbaresco. Currently, the wine estates cover 20 hectares, and the wines made from these vines are labeled under 'Azienda Agricola Falletto'.

Giacosa continues a tradition of aging its wines in barrels, although it now uses French oak instead of the traditional Slovenian oak. If you're looking for a wine that encapsulates the essence of Barbaresco, Falletto di Bruno Giacosa Asili 2017 is an unparalleled choice, offering a combination of history, quality, and the mastery of one of the greatest names in Italian wine.
